Since 1933

who we are
Our story
The strong roots of our past have established a strong foundation for our future…
Eastridge Baptist Church was organized in 1933 under the name of Oak Cliff Central Baptist Church with the founding Pastor, Ralph Bacon (1933-1949). The church was renamed in 1938 to Clarendon Drive Baptist Church upon erecting the church’s first building on the corner of Clarendon and Polk Street. Future additions to the facilities followed in the years to come.
Led by Pastor, Jeff Pritchard (1949-1981), the church relocated again in 1966 to Highway 67 and Sunny Glen Drive and renamed the church to Sunny Glen Baptist Church.
In 1999 the church voted to relocate to the city of Red Oak and met at Eastridge Elementary during the construction of the new building (our present building), which was dedicated on September 29, 2002.
A summary of the Commitments we value
We are “ALL IN” on the Great Commission…
Jesus left the church His marching orders when He said, “‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen” (Matthew 28:18b-20).
Acts 14:21-22 reveals an essential element that is required in carrying out the Great Commission: “And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.”
The preaching of the gospel is essential for unbelievers to respond to God’s call to place their faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, and commit to following Him as Lord.
Thus, our foundation in carrying out the Great Commission at Eastridge Baptist Church is simple yet sure: we seek to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, give everyone in our immediate context the opportunity to respond, and teach them to obey Jesus in every aspect of their lives.
The list of commitments in Acts 2:42 comprise the starting point for a born-again follower of Jesus to progress from spiritual infancy to spiritual maturity (a lifelong process that never ends on this side of heaven)…each being reinforced in the New Testament:
A commitment to the apostles' doctrine—NT fulfillment of OT revelation (1 Peter 2:1-3)
A commitment to the fellowship of Christ’s body (Ephesians 4:11-16)
Including participation in the Lord’s Supper (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34)
A commitment to prayer (Ephesians 6:18)
These commitments are the foundation by which all other commitments (such as fasting, evangelism, and stewardship) are developed and matured.
